Activated carbon is an excellent adsorbent with early application and wide application. It is made by carbonizing various carbon-containing materials such as coal, resin, sawdust, fruit shell, fruit core, bamboo chips, coconut shell, palm shell, etc., and then activating them with water vapor or chemicals. Activated carbon has a developed pore structure and a large specific surface area (generally in the range of 700-1500m2/g). It has strong adsorption capacity and is a hydrophobic and organic-philic adsorbent. It is often used to absorb and recover organic solvents and odorous substances in the air. In terms of environmental protection, it is used to treat industrial wastewater and control certain gaseous pollutants. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is often used to adsorb heat sources, remove impurities, decolorize, and filter aid. It is a commonly used auxiliary material in the pharmaceutical industry.
The activated carbon equipment of Xuye Machinery Factory uses a physical activation furnace. Its production process mainly uses pure wood charcoal as raw material, without adding any chemicals as activators. Instead, it mainly uses its own carbon element, with air (hydrogen) as a combustion aid, to rotate and burn in the activation furnace to make the temperature reach above 1000, and then uses water vapor, carbon dioxide, and hydrogen as activation media to activate and produce activated carbon. The production process is relatively simple. Unlike the chemical method, which mixes carbon-containing raw materials with certain chemicals and uses chemicals as activators for heat treatment, the physical activation furnace has no pollution problems during the production process.
The physical activated carbon production line of Xuye Machinery Factory is mainly composed of the following basic equipment:
1. Drying and carbonizing integrated machine: also called continuous drum carbonizing machine, used for carbonizing raw materials such as wood chips, fruit shells, fruit cores, bamboo chips, coconut shells, palm shells, etc.;
2. Heating furnace: connected to the carbonizing furnace, supplying heat to the carbonizing machine from the outside, the fuel used includes biomass, biomass gas, natural gas, electricity and many other options;
3. Steam generator: the generated steam enters the steam distributor and then enters the activation furnace;
4. Activation furnace: It is a rotary drum structure, so that the furnace body rotates at a predetermined speed and is evenly heated. The wood charcoal is heated to a higher temperature in the activation furnace, and then steam enters the furnace as an activation medium;
5. Charcoal cooler: to cool the activated wood charcoal;
6. Auxiliary equipment: dust removal system, flue gas treatment system, feeder, discharger, elevator, silo, distribution cabinet, fan, etc.
