Activated carbon is refined using high-quality raw materials such as premium coal, sawdust, fruit shells, and coconut shells through advanced processing equipment.
The production process of activated carbon involves several stages, including carbonization, cooling, and activation. The production line configuration can be adjusted according to the requirements of the final product, resulting in granular, cylindrical, or powdered activated carbon products.
Suitable for producing wood-based acivated carbon, coal-based activated carbon, and fruit shell-based activated carbon using high-quality raw materials such as premium coal, sawdust, fruit shells, and coconut shells.
Carbonization Section:
The carbonization section mainly consists of a material bin, conveyor, feeder, rotary carbonization furnace, tail gas purification and recovery system, burner, discharge cooling conveyor, control cabinet, and fan.
Material Process: Wood or fruit shells are elevated into the feeding chamber of the carbonization furnace through a conveyor. The feeder then transports them into the rotary drum inside the furnace, where they move spirally along the drum's surface and transfer heat required for carbonization. After a preheating and drying stage in the first half of the drum, they enter the carbonization stage at temperatures between 350-550°C. During this process, the raw material comes into contact with heat, releasing moisture and volatile components before being discharged through the discharge port.
Gas Process: The volatile gases produced in the carbonization furnace are burned in the combustion chamber, heating the rotary drum's wall. The heated flue gas is then released through the chimney.
Activation Section:
The activation section mainly consists of a material bin, activation furnace, steam pipeline, waste heat boiler, rotating device, temperature measuring device, cooling device, settling chamber, dust collector, and fan.
Material Process: After screening the carbonized material to remove particles smaller than 2mm and ensure moisture content is below 15%, the material is sent to the activation section's feed bin via an elevator. The material is uniformly fed into the activation furnace, where the residual heat temperature must reach at least 800°C before feeding. Adequate oxygen is supplied to the furnace via a fan, followed by the introduction of steam for the activation process. The steam must penetrate the activated carbon, and typically 2 tons of steam are used per ton of finished activated carbon. Diffusion steam is not used, as it leads to high burn-off rates and lower efficiency and quality. The material advances at a speed of 6 meters per hour within the rotating furnace. After activation, the material enters the cooling zone and is discharged through the outlet pipe of the furnace. It then passes through a water-cooling machine for about 3 minutes to reach ambient temperature (about 30-40°C).
Gas Process: The furnace is equipped with a settling chamber, serving four purposes: preheating the waste heat boiler, dust settling, preventing freezing of pipes in cold areas when the furnace is shut down, and re-combusting incompletely burned flue gas to reduce emissions and utilize the generated heat. Behind the settling chamber, a waste heat boiler uses the high-temperature tail gas (around 800°C) to produce steam for material activation. An induced draft fan is used to draw the high-temperature tail gas into the waste heat boiler and then into a pulse-jet bag filter for emission control.
Activated carbon is mainly used in water purification, air purification, toxic gas purification, exhaust gas treatment, protection, gas desulfurization and deodorization, solvent recovery, and other fields. The activated carbon production line provided by XUYE MACHINEY mainly includes the carbonization section (raw material pulverization, drying, carbonization, and cooling), the activation section (raw material treatment, activation, and cooling), and supporting equipment. It is suitable for producing wood-based activated carbon, coal-based activated carbon, and fruit shell-based activated carbon using high-quality raw materials such as premium coal, sawdust, fruit shells, and coconut shells. The typical materials suitable for the activated carbon activation production line include:
Wood-based activated carbon: Activated carbon made from wood chips, charcoal, etc.
Fruit shell-based activated carbon: Activated carbon made from coconut shells, walnut shells, apricot kernel shells, etc.
Coal-based activated carbon: Activated carbon made from brown coal, peat, bituminous coal, anthracite, etc.
Regenerated carbon: Activated carbon produced by reactivating used waste carbon.
